Best for: First-time south-coast visitors who want beach days and easy access to Galle
Trade-off: That convenience brings more people and a more conventional resort-town rhythm than Koggala.

Ahangama is part of the south coast's growing surf, yoga, café and villa belt. It is the easiest of these four places for building days around going out.

You do not have to give up Ahangama's cafés or Unawatuna's beach because you sleep in Koggala. All four towns sit on Sri Lanka Railways' Coast Line, in this west-to-east order: Unawatuna, Koggala, Ahangama, then Weligama.
That makes one quiet base workable. Use the train when the timetable suits; use a tuk-tuk or car when you want a door-to-door day.
